20mi to schooland back via caitlins

case of the mondays

32 miles with COD, ten of which were with the fast dudes on their 4000 dollar bikes. averaged over 19 mph but i was dead after that, so i rode with the piano dudes  the rest of the way.  then did another 20 biking all over needham, newton, brookline and boston, for school and shopping and errands.  biked 7 miles home in 22 minutes averaging about 18.7 which is super fast for me esp after riding so much previously. boat shoes and clipless are not the best combo but it worked ok.

11 to caitlins, 4 to school 9.5 home. riding hom was sick cause there was crazy traffic at the huge hill and it was very motivating ot zip past liek 100 cars on the hardest part of the ride.

almost done. gonna let it dry for a few days then we will assemble it and ride it. paint was acting funny and scrunching up under the clear coat. very odd.

albany trip

rode to albany last weekend with dan for caitlins partay.  the ride was super fun and super tough. day on we did most the riding inlcuding the berkshires in the pouring freezing rain. and day tow was much shorter but also very difficult due to two mountains and many uphills.  all in in all we had good weather and a good ride with no injurys (except dans broken front derailer) and only minor bike issues.

long ride

rode pretty much all afternoon.  did the loop five times then went into boston for a meeting (about 75 miles). chilled for a few hours then biked back (9 miles).  rode faster than normal and it was super nice out all day, 65-72 sunny and a slight breeze.

veloplugs

figured id try out velo plugs instead of rim tape this time around.  the biggest issue was finding them but i got them from universal cycles along with some other stuff.  ease of use is a 10.  super easy to put in and they fit snugly in the holes of my deep vs. i read that they make tire mounting a lot easier becuase of the extra room, but that seemed negligable to me.  the weight savings on the other hand was a huge difference. jk.  dont buy these unless your a sucker like i am or the most ridic weight weenie on the earth. btw ive had no flats with them in about 100 miles.

i actually bought them cause they matched my red rims!!!

super nice day for a super nice smr.  60 miles + dan + shaun = good times.  the ride out was wicked nice, the ride home was into the wind and brutal. i was dead by the time i got home.  need to work on pace, eat more, drink more, and take more breaks to give my hands, neck and maximus a rest.

i got love for ups!

package from universal cycles came yesterday. i stumbled on their website a couple weeks ago and they had everything i was looking for pretty much including velo plugs.  ordered some more tubes, water bottle, velo plugs, wheels mfg chainwhip, some jp weigles frame saver, and some track style grips for my nitto bullhorns.  the selection at universal is insane, they have everything, the prices are decent, shipping is cheap but dead slow (comes ground from PDX). ill psot more on this stuff as it gets put to use.

new old bars

got these oury grips for free via a shipping mistake from speedgoat.  i like them a lot. good prices and fast shipping from PA. and i had these old cruiser bars via the dump. they were all oxidized and rusting and crusty and gross so i sanded them down to smooth em out a bit then polished em up a bit. turned out rustic romantic i think :)

croun bike update

cranks from the first bike being converted by croun.  caitlin will be the proud owner of it one day... soon.  its an early 90s raleigh capri.  polished some parts and have prepped the frame. just waiting for some nicer weather to paint. more pics to come.

couple shots of my new wheels from tony at iro.  A+ company.  new iro premier hubs laced 3x to red deep v's.  he even laced four silver spokes into the front for me.  the rims were left overs that had some paint flaws, upon arrival there are like three small spots where the paint isnt immaculate, no big d for half the price.  the hubs seem nice, i like the previous ones and these are a bit more solid and have better bearings so im psyched on that. the branding on the outside is gonna have to go tho :( a little nail polish should take care of that.  cant wait to put them on in a few weeks.
